If you ask people what their least favorite subject was in school, you’ll probably hear a lot of people saying, “Algebra!” or “Chemistry!” This is…understandable. Sometimes it can be hard to see how useful subjects like higher mathematics or advanced science will be in your everyday life.
However, another school subject that gets well-hated is not so disposable.
Yes, we’re talking about Grammar.
When you get into a professional career, there is nothing more cringe-worthy than having someone point out a simple grammar or spelling mistake in your writing. Not only does it give you that sinking feeling, but it can also make people think that you might not know what you’re doing.
The texting/tweeting culture has definitely lowered the standards when it comes to written communications.
However, if you want to have an impact and make a difference, then you must raise the bar. Anyone can write a text with emojis. It takes more to be able write persuasively and effectively.
Having the ability to write clearly, with proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting, will not only set you apart in today’s day and age, but it will also make you a highly sought-after commodity.
Picture in your mind the difference between a well-written article and a sloppily-written article. The well-written article fosters respect, puts forward an air of authority, and allows you to effectively communicate your message with the world. A poorly-written article can make people lose respect for you as an author, question your authority, and ignore the message you are trying to communicate.
Which option do you want?
