Donald Trump’s election ushered in a new era of politics. While Hillary Clinton was poised to break the glass ceiling for women, Trump broke a different glass ceiling – one for those who have no political experience. The most powerful position in the world is now accessible to the non-politician, something that has never been the case before.
And like sharks smelling blood in the water, the non-politicians are beginning to circle. Most recently, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
Make America Rock Again…?
Johnson, of WWE and movie star fame, said the topic of running for president kept getting brought up to him and that, “There was a real sense of earnestness, which made me go home and think ‘Let me really rethink my answer and make sure I am giving an answer that is truthful and also respectful.’”
He also said, “I don’t know if I would make a good president,” he added. “I know that I have a certain skill set, and I think it’s in that skill set that people see, and that people would want me to run. And I also think that’s reflective of them wanting to see a better leadership happening right now.”
While Johnson has downplayed the rumors, you can definitely see the wheels turning in his mind. Other non-politician celebrities like Will Smith and Tom Hanks have also been rumored to be considering a move into politics.
Non-politician celebrities like Johnson have a tremendous advantage over any traditional politician in many ways:
1. Name recognition:
They’ve made a living getting their face on the TV screen of every home in America for years. As pathetic as it is, we know from past experience many people vote based solely because they recognize a name.
2. Money:
While they’ve been getting paid to be famous, they’ve accumulated a lot of money. Johnson is reported to be worth over $125 million.
3. A following:
Celebrities know how to connect with their fans. They have a pre-built campaign network. Johnson has over 86 million followers on Instagram alone. Ted Cruz, after over a year of nationwide campaigning for POTUS has only 151,000 followers.
4. Camera ready:
They know how to speak to a camera, be convincing, and get their point across with style. Something that can’t be said for many politicians (especially many of the actual good ones).
The Future
This may be the best thing ever. Politicians have been ruining politics in America for a long time. Having someone with an outsider’s perspective is very appealing.
The point is that we must be ready for what’s coming. Because let’s face it, the Left has the vast majority of high power celebrities. You could basically count on one hand the number of real celebrities that would be truly Constitutionally conservative.
This is not a popularity contest, this is a battle for the very soul of America. But the election of Trump has changed the rules and we’d better realize that and adjust accordingly before it’s too late.
